The latest challenge at our house has been sunscreen. My son is sooooo sensitive to metals and ingredients that we've already gone through 4 different kinds this summer. Apparently, with all the other issues, allergies and behavior problems last summer we didn't notice the reactions to sunscreen. It started about 3 1/2 months ago, his waking up every night at least once, sometimes quietly and sometimes screaming horribly. Not anything like night terrors (see other blog), but more like nightmares and usually the same time each night.
I finally gave up and didn't apply sunscreen for the past few weeks and the night activity actually got worse. We went to our new kinesiologist and homeopathic doctor for a checkup and to ask some questions. The doctor checked the sunscreens and said the metals (titanium oxide) were highly toxic for Asher and the benzoate was also a bad one.
So, we are detoxifying his body with lemon water, extra vitamin C and adding magnesium to his routine before bed. (using Natural Calm - flavored powder) He has slept through the night twice since and the screaming is almost completely gone. Getting better. A friend of mine thinks she found a good recipe for homemade sunscreen, so I'll pass it along when I try it out. Until then, you'll find us in the shade or inside.
